Liturgy Altar Servers and Acolytes

Junior Altar Servers Junior Altar servers play an important role as they assist the priest and deacons during the Mass. These young boys and girls must have already received their first Holy Communion and be a member of St. Joseph’s Bulli Parish. Formal training is provided by a Senior Altar Server or Acolyte.

Senior Altar Servers The role of the Senior Altar Server is to ensure that the Mass runs with due reverence including organising readers and preparation of the Sacred Vessels. Junior altar servers can progress to Senior Altar Server once they reach 16 years of age. The Senior Altar server also guides the Junior Altar Servers in their role.

Acolytes Acolytes enhance the quality of liturgical celebration by taking specific roles in liturgical processions and by serving the priest at Mass and other liturgies. There is Diocesan and Parish training for acolytes.
